How to use it

  1. 1Type your name, a bio line or a caption in the box above.
  2. 2Scroll through the previews and tap the style you like to copy it.
  3. 3In Instagram, open your profile, tap Edit profile and paste into Name or Bio. Captions and comments work too: just paste.
  4. 4Save, then look at your profile on your phone to make sure every character shows up.

Instagram has no font options for bios, so these styles use special Unicode characters that paste like normal text. They won't work in your @username, which only allows letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Keep the handle plain and style your name or one line of your bio instead.

Frequently asked questions

Instagram usernames only accept letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Styled letters are different Unicode characters, so they're rejected there. Put the fancy version in the Name field instead; it appears on your profile right above your bio.

Yes. Styled text counts like any other text, and frames, symbols and line effects add extra characters, so a decorated bio fills up faster than it looks. If Instagram cuts you off, simplify the frame first.

Search matches normal letters, so a name written only in styled characters is harder to find. A good compromise is to keep your real name plain and add a styled word or symbol next to it, or save the styling for your bio.

The characters are standard Unicode, but not every device has a glyph for all of them; older phones and some computers miss the rarer ones. Bold, italic and cursive are the most widely supported, while heavily decorated styles are more likely to break.

They can be. Screen readers may spell styled letters out one by one or skip them, so a bio written entirely in a fancy font can be unreadable for some visitors. Use styles for your name or a short line, and keep links, contact details and what you do in plain text.
