How to use it

It works by adding a combining line character after each letter, which the app draws over the letter before it. That's why it survives copy and paste where there's no formatting, and also why the line can look broken or slightly off in some fonts.
Frequently asked questions
WhatsApp (~text~) and Discord (~~text~~) have built-in strikethrough that looks cleaner in chats, so use that there. These Unicode versions are for places without formatting: bios, display names, captions and most social posts.
Each letter gets its own short line, and how neatly they join depends on the font on the reader's device. On most phones it looks continuous; on some, the segments show small gaps or sit a little too high.
The straight version uses a long stroke overlay (U+0336) through the middle of each letter and reads as a clear correction. The wavy one uses a tilde overlay (U+0334), which looks more like scribbling something out and suits playful edits.
With the straight and wavy strikes, yes, so the line runs across the whole phrase. The slash and x styles mark letters only and leave the spaces clean.
Usually not. They read the letters and ignore or mangle the marks, so the “crossed out” meaning gets lost. If the correction matters, say it in words too, for example “(edit: new date below)”.
